“Welcome to Gap Kids!”
usually i’m responded with an embarrassed or annoyed smile.
most of the time that i’m working, music is playing, drowning out all the thoughts in my brain and all i can think about is “fold the arms in or out?” “why is this white so dirty?” “should i go clean up the girls’ section even though i’m placed in the boys’ section?” “where did i see this sweater? … ah! there it is.” “my coworkers are so close to each other. why am i so awkward?” etc. etc.
it’s really mindless work, but it’s been fun so far =)
the kids! aw they’re so cute. today, right when i walked in this baby spotted me, and walked toward me pointing, we almost did the “ET” thing (the two fingers touching). soooo cute~~! my heart just about melted.
and there was this shy girl about 3rd? grade? (i really have no idea how to gauge age). her grandma was really pushy, which i didn’t really have a problem with, but i could tell she was getting embarrassed. i helped pick out some khakis. i could tell she didn’t want to bug me – she kept telling her grandma “let’s just get these…” even though they didn’t fit right. i continued helping them pick out a better size, and gave her a quick reassuring smile. her face brightened, and i could tell she was more comfortable. ^.^ made my day.
and s.o.s. here. i feel like i’m losing chunks of my day. hours fly by quickly while i’m working (except that last, snail like hour when i’m dragging my aching feet because they hurt too much to pick up), and it’s hard for me to think on worthwhile things during that time (due to the blaring music). of course i can’t be pondering on the intricacies of limited atonement while i’m helping a customer find the right size, but a lot of them times i’m just doing mindless folding. i think i can use that time better… any suggestions?
pray for your customers as you see them.
pray for your co-workers as you see them, too.
If you take breaks, either take someone with you and begin talking with them about their lives that can easily lead to sharing the Gospel with them or you can meditate on Scripture. Having index cards with Scripture helps a loooot.
jennifer — i didn’t know you worked at gapkids!
hahah retail is interesting…
unforch that your music is so loud — folding time is the best for thinking time.
hope it’s not getting you down!
memorize scripture!! or meditate on scriptures.. =) and PRAY!
